Join Barkley Square, Karing by Kristina, Askmissa.com, Fido Journalism, Chios Grooming and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria for Diamonds in the Ruff.

Join us Thursday June 4th from 6-9pm on the Barkley Square Patio located at 2006 Mt. Vernon Ave in Alexandria.

This event is being held in conjunction with Del Ray, Alexandria’s First Thursday. First Thursday is a monthly event where all of the businesses along Mt Vernon Ave participate in one central theme and keep their doors open until 9pm. The theme for June is Dog Days of Del Ray.

We will be holding an adoption event featuring the “Diamonds in the Ruff” participants. Several dogs will be selected from AWLA for an adopt me makeover.

We will also be hosting our weekly Happy Yappy Hour at this time complete with a Bark Bar full of yummy dog treats.

Don’t forget to stop by cheesetique to grab some cheese and bread before heading our way to grab a bottle of wine at Planet wine! For dessert head over to ACKC for their amazing chocolates!

If you haven’t been to Del Ray come see us “Where Main Street Still Exists.”

Spotlight on People Animals Love (PAL)

Have you heard about People Animals Love?

PAL is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that brings people and animals together, brightening the lives of the lonely, easing the pain of the sick and enriching the world of at-risk children.

PAL Pet Visiting volunteers comprise 200+ caring adults and children and their PAL-certified animals, all of whom are committed to bringing people and animals together in meaningful, mutually life-affirming ways. Together, they make about 18,000 contacts per year.

Learn more at Happy Hour!

For the next three Wednesdays, PAL will be hosting a dog happy hour at Cafe Ole located at 4000 Wisconsin Ave. I attended the happy hour last night and met some of the wonderful volunteers and learned more on how to become a volunteer myself. I am really excited to attend their volunteer orientation with my dog Remy. I think he would be the perfect dog to help brighten someone’s day!

A dog zone is coming to the American Red Cross’ Waterfront Festival, June 20-21.

This year will be the inaugural year of Daisy Mae’s Dog Zone. The Dog Zone will be located at Robinson Terminal along the Potomac in Old Town.

Karing by Kristina and Barkley Square will be there as one of this years Sponsors!!! Be sure to stop by our booth and check out the latest in greatest in K9 treats and fashion.

Stop by the activity tent on Saturday June 20th at 12pm for a meet and greet with Cocoa the chihuahua, he is the true owner of Barkley Square and is currently featured in the Virginia Tourism ads!

This area will be free to enter and dogs are allowed.

In a special area near Robinson Terminal, owners of and purveyors of services to the canines of Alexandria will mix and mingle and celebrate along with their canine companions. Admittance for dogs and their owners is free for this area of the Festival.

Every year the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross hosts one of the largest events in the metropolitan area, as well as one of the largest American Red Cross fundraisers in the United States, drawing about 15,000 patrons.

Like all chapters, the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross depends on support from the local community to accomplish its mission of helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies such as house fires, floods, and other disasters. The Chapter also offers Pet First Aid classes and disaster preparedness for pets.

We invite you to join us for the largest Red Cross fundraiser in the nation. In addition to supporting the community and the Alexandria Red Cross, your participation in this event will be beneficial to you and your organization as you come together with dogs and their owners.

We will be having dog friendly vendors and activities occurring in the Dog Zone.

I invite you to participate in this wonderful event or to please forward this to any local dog friendly businesses you think could be involved. If you would like to participate as vendor or a sponsor please email michelle@karingbykristina.com

Kristina adopts another chihuahua!!

Filed under: Adoptable Pets, Dogs — Grayson @ 4:54 pm

Last week, Kristina and a friend adopted a “senior” chihuahua from the Lawson Animal Shelter in Alexandria.  Here are a few pictures from the adoption.  “Little Bits” is a 9-year-old chihuahua with a few health problems, but, true to “Be Kind to Animals” week, nothing a vet visit or two can’t correct!  We encourage all of our readers out there to take advantage of the adoption process when choosing a new pet - you will be happy you did and you will save a life!
