The Washington Animal Rescue League held their Rescue me Gala on Saturday at Union Station. WARL’s mission is to promote the welfare of companion animals and support the people who love them through animal rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and affordable veterinary care.
Guests were greeted with bow ties and neck ties for their four legged companions. I attended the event with my Maltese, Lacy.

We enjoyed passed snacks for both canines and humans as well as several food stations with many mouth watering treats. The silent auction had something for everyone and the bid sheets filled up fast.
I ran into Pup-a-roo (a Barkley Square regular) and his Mom Brandy Jones and got to meet several of the WARL volunteers, dogs they have given forever homes to and a few of the dogs up for adoption (which I will feature as adoptable pets of the week!)

We were invited to spend Saturday afternoon at the Citibank on Capital Hill. They wanted to have a customer appreciation day for all of their four legged clientele!
I went armed with a gourmet bark bar from Barkley Square and some grooming products to provide some pampering to the pooches.
I think the day went really well, I ran into our Fashion for Paws friend and CW Personality Paul Wharton while he was walking his dog (outfitted in a Barkley Square collar!)I got to meet some great dogs and even helped Citibank raise some money for the March of Dimes.
A big thank you to all of the Citibank staff for inviting us to join them for this great event!

Sunday was a fun and hot day for the KBK and Barkley Staff. We attended the Bow Wow Pow Wow in Adams Morgan.
Alongside other vendors we sold some great Barkley treats and toys to all of the folks attending. We met some great people and even found a new line of leashes and collars to bring to Barkley.
They had some great doggie contests and raffle prizes. All of the dogs drank plenty of water and some even stopped to play in it!!
Well, it’s along story, but here I am in Del Ray and I don’t know anyone here. My Mom rescued me a year or so ago in Richmond. I belonged to an old lady who didn’t want me anymore. Her daughter didn’t want me either. But my Mom saw a sign and recognized my ‘potential’ and adopted me on the spot - sight unseen. And, I haven’t disappointed her - except for a minor tinkle here and there. They are tiny tinkles cause I am tiny.
You see, I weigh 5 lbs and 1 oz. I’m a chihuahua. Small is powerful I say - my Mom thinks so.
Anyway, we got layed off. Great for me cause I had plenty of lap time but not so much for my Mom who was worried we would have to down grade the dog food. But, because we were lucky, she found a job and moved me and my step-brother Mac to Del Ray.
So here I am, in town and I dont know anyone. There are pooches everywhere - I see them walking by in front of my house, but no one comes to visit. I’m getting lonely. Is there anyone out there for me? Bow Wow.

I have to wonder if love will find me in Del Ray. I have been “working” in Del Ray for a year now and still no suitors. I put on quite a show for the guests that come into the store bringing in handsome potential love interests. I dance, circle, clap and even crawl in attempt to impress them. But at the end of the day it is back home, alone and sleeping with my humans.

Adoptable pet of the week
Meet Diva! At 8 weeks of age Diva and a couple of her littermates were given to a shelter. This was the third time a litter of unwanted puppies were born to the same female Rottweiler and the same owner took some of them to the shelter. A few of the puppies got adopted but Diva was still waiting. Nova Rotteweiler Rescue was called to come and pick her up before she remained in a shelter environment too long. She is now 14 weeks old and ready for a home.
NoVa Rottweiler Rescue League, Inc. is dedicated to helping homeless, lonely dogs have a second chance in life.
If Diva is adopted by someone after reading this article, I would like to offer them a pet goody bag from Barkley Square Bakery and a $50 gift certificate to Karing by Kristina Complete Pet Care Professionals for their next pet sitting service.

Paws for a Cause was held on Sunday at the Renaissance Hotel. The event benefited the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Barkley Square and Karing by Kristina were on hand to provide a yummy Bark Bar full of treats for all of the four legged guests.
Attendees enjoyed a vendor row where companies like KBK and Barkley brought the latest and greatest in pet treats, clothes and accessories. There was a caricature artist on hand to capture the evening on paper and a doggie psychic to help everyone understand what the dogs were thinking.
ABC 7 News Anchor, Leon Harris served as Master of Ceremonies and the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan was the evening’s Keynote speaker.
